Migration

By staying focused on the facts of migration, young people can understand the complexity of offering protection and what they can do to improve the lives of refugees and others.

Who’s Responsible

What are they doing?

Although migration is essential for our economy and people coming to the UK contribute more than they cost, it has become a highly politicised issue. The UK Government has proposed reforms to the asylum system aimed at deterring illegal migration and streamlining the asylum process. However, waiting times for processing asylum claims are still at a record high.

What can you do?

Donate your time or funds to organisations working to support refugees and displaced persons. Many humanitarian organizations provide essential services such as education, food, medical care, and to refugees in crisis-affected regions and resettlement countries. Consider volunteering with local refugee support groups or fundraising for refugee charities. Advocate for policies and actions that promote the rights and protection of refugees and address the underlying causes of displacement. Write to your elected representatives, participate in advocacy campaigns, and support organisations advocating for refugee rights and humanitarian assistance. Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for refugees and migrants in your community. Combat discrimination, xenophobia, and intolerance by promoting understanding, empathy, and respect for cultural diversity. Support initiatives that promote social cohesion, cultural exchange, and economic integration for refugees and host communities.
