About Changemakers

We live at a time of Welsh, UK, and global challenges. But it’s also a time of possibility and opportunity. How can ordinary young Welsh citizens make a political or social difference? How can you utilise political institutions to make change? How can you be an active citizen? How can you become a Changemaker?

For young people living in Wales

This website is for young people living in Wales who want to make change to Wales, the UK, and globally. If there’s something you want to be different, you can make change by engaging with Senedd Cymru (Welsh Parliament), UK Parliament, or taking other actions to get your voice heard. It’s important to know which organisation has the power to make the change you’re campaigning for, so we’ll tell you about devolution and the connections between the UK and Wales.

Changemakers project

Changemakers began as an academic research project exploring ways to improve young adults’ access to political and social change. Led by Dr. Donna Smith and Dr. Jenny Hewitt from The Open University and project teams at The Open University in Wales, funded by the Open Societal Challenges programme.

The project has worked with a range of young Welsh voices to understand what they need to make change in Wales and the wider UK. We would like to thank Grange Pavilion Youth Forum and Pembrokeshire Youth Service for all their time, effort and input on this work. The Changemakers website is born out of these voices, and celebrates the role of active citizenship: the idea that someone can be an active political citizen and can affect change. We would like to thank Grange Pavilion Youth Forum and Pembrokeshire Youth Service for their time, insights and work on this project.
