Political parties

Most political parties have youth sections which deal with issues most relevant to you.

Political parties are organisations that coordinate candidates to compete in elections. In Wales, the four parties with elected representatives in the Senedd currently / most recently are:

A few smaller parties—including Wales Green Party and Propel have elected representation at the local government level.

Joining a political party allows you to contribute to the development of party policies and platforms. Party members have opportunities to participate in policy discussions, propose resolutions, and shape party manifestos through internal party structures such as policy forums, conferences, and committees. By engaging in these processes, party members can advocate for specific policy positions, influence party priorities, and shape the direction of party policy on key issues.

Political parties play a central role in the democratic process, contesting elections and competing for political power at local, regional, and national levels. Joining a political party enables individuals to participate in electoral campaigns, campaign for party candidates, and mobilise support for party platforms. Party members may also have opportunities to stand for election as candidates themselves, representing their party and promoting their policy agenda to voters.

Joining a political party in the UK can empower people to play an active role in the political process, advocate for policy change, and contribute to shaping the future direction of the country. While political parties may differ in their ideologies, priorities, and approaches, membership offers a means for individuals to engage with the democratic process and work towards achieving their political goals and aspirations.
